The Capabilities and Options of the Ford F-150

The F-150's Capabilities

The F-150 has a cargo carrying capacity of 3,120 pounds of weight and 81.3 cubic feet of volume. If you are going to be climbing in and out of the bed of your pickup, you should consider buying one or both of the step options. One option is the side box steps, which are mounted on both sides the truck just forward of the rear wheels. The second option is a tailgate-mounted step and folding grab handle. The step allows you to easily step onto the tailgate, and the grab handle allows you to pull yourself up using your arm. The F-150 is capable of towing an 11,300 pound trailer.

The F-150's Frame

The F-150 is built using a fully boxed frame. The cross section of a boxed frame is rectangular in shape, not C-shaped. A boxed frame is stronger than one that is C-shaped. The cross members are welded through the frame to provide for a stronger weld. The F-150 has a strong and rigid frame.
The rear shocks are mounted to the axles inside of the wheels and outside of the frame rails. This mounting point puts the shocks in the best position to stabilize the bed of the pickup when it is loaded with cargo.

The F-150's Electronic Assists

Roll
stability control measures the roll rate of the chassis and turning rate of the truck. It can apply each of the four wheel brakes individually and reduce engine power to maintain stability of the chassis. However, Ford issues a warning saying that the driver can carelessly overpower the system. The F-150 is available with a number of electronic assists. Four of these assists are described as follows:
    1. Trailer sway control acts in conjunction withroll stability control when the truck is pulling a trailer. Both systems help to prevent trailer sway. The trailer sway control system applies wheel braking and reduces engine power as might be necessary.
    1. Electronic-locking rear differential allows the driver to lock the differential from the cab. When the differential is locked, engine power is applied equally to both of the rear wheels.
    1. A 6-speed, electronically controlled, automatic transmission improves power delivery and powertrain efficiency.
The Ford F-150 in Woodstock, IL, is a very versatile and capable pickup, and it is available with a range of options.

The Selling Points of the Toyota Celica

Written By automotive info on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 | 2:01 AM

Ask any old-school automotive hobbyist what sporty cars he would prefer to drive on any given day and the Toyota Celica would surely be mentioned at least once, and be on the top three choices at that. The Celica refers to a series of sporty coupes manufactured by Toyota. Celica is derived from the Latin word coelica which is translated to mean "celestial" or "heavenly". In a sense, that's what the Celica is—because when you're driving one, you'll feel like you're in automotive heaven.

Like most car models, the Celica has gone through numerous modifications in its life but it remains Toyota's entry-level sport coupe that has gained many loyal fans and admirers. It was in 1971 when the model arrived on U.S. shores. The Celica was very popular in the United States because of its four-cylinder engine, sleek looks, and relative affordability—the rear-wheel drive coupe endeared itself among the throng of young Americans who desired a sporty car without the price tag of a Porsche. The first three generations were powered by R series engines, and had rear-wheel drive. The fourth-generation release of the model adapted front-wheel drive; later models were also released in convertible and hatchback body styles in addition to the traditional coupe.

The introduction of different body styles attracted different sets of customers but didn't do much good for the already-established market of automotive enthusiasts, who protested that these variants were not sporty at all—just flashy. It's a good thing Toyota heeded these complaints, because they worked to develop a faster vehicle. The success of this Toyota Celica variant was short-lived because hobbyists found fault with the stiff tuning. Toyota, probably thinking no further improvements can be done to the model, decided to just replace it with another: the Scion tC. The Scion tC had big shoes to fill. With the Celica discontinued, the Scion tC went on to perform at the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Races held during the Long Beach Grand Prix. However, enthusiasts say that the Scion isn't as sport-focused as the Celica. It's good for Toyota sales though, because it appeals to the current market and their more mainstream tastes.

The Celica is still very much a good buy however, especially if you're going for pre-owned. There have been seven generation releases of the Toyota Celica. The first was launched in 1970; the second was in 1977; the third came in 1981; the fourth came four years later; Generation Five was released in 1989; the sixth was in 1993; and the last generation entered the market in 1999. If you are interested in getting a Celica, it's best to do research on each model generation and their variants. The recent models are really satisfactory, with good gas mileage and cargo space, and outstanding reliability. Variable Valve Timing technology was introduced in models manufactured starting from late 1997. You might also want to hunt down a Toyota Celica Supra, which would later be known as the Toyota Supra. However, if you want a classic, sporty look and feel, you will do better with the Celica's earlier generations.

Tips How to donate a car

Written By automotive info on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 | 7:41 AM

1. Avoid middlemen. Numerous for-profit intermediary organizations advertise aggressively on TV, billboards and elsewhere, offering to help you donate your vehicle to charity. Here’s the catch: These organizations typically keep about 50 percent to 90 percent of the vehicle’s value for themselves, and the charities don’t get what they could have gotten. To prevent this, check directly with charities you admire and find out whether they accept car or boat donations.
2. Find a worthy charity. If the charities you normally support aren’t equipped to accept such donations, do some homework until you find a reputable charity that is. You can research charities’ track records online at this Better Business Bureau site and through Charity Navigator.
3. Check the math. If you still feel compelled to use an intermediary organization – possibly because you’re busy – at least ask the organization how much of the car or boat’s value will go to charity. If the organization simply gives charities flat fees — say, $100 for a used vehicle regardless of its value, or $2,000 a month — your donation may not be eligible for a tax deduction.
4. Know the status of your recipient. In order for you to qualify for a deduction, the charity that gets your donation must be an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) organization. Your church, synagogue, mosque or temple likely qualifies. (Check first just to make sure.) You also can visit the Internal Revenue Service’s Web site and search for Publication 78 to find other qualifying non-profit organizations. (Just type “78” into the search field on the IRS home page and you’ll be directed to the right publication.)
Advertise
5. Do the delivery yourself. Once you’ve identified a worthy charity, recognize that it will have to pay someone to pick up your car or boat for you. To help the charity maximize the benefit of your donation, drop the car or boat off yourself.
6. Transfer the vehicle with care. Want to eliminate all risk of running up parking tickets and other violations after you’ve said goodbye to your donated vehicle? Then formally re-title the vehicle to the charity, and report the transfer to your state’s department of motor vehicles or licensing. Never agree to leave the ownership space on the charity donation papers blank.
7. Your estimate of the donation’s value probably won’t cut it. If your car or boat is worth more than $500, the IRS is going to want to see evidence of how much the charity got for it. (Most charities that accept these donations turn around and sell them for cash.) You’ll need to get a receipt from the charity revealing exactly how much money it made.
8. Know when you can report the fair market value. You won’t need evidence of the sales price if the charity keeps the vehicle or vessel and uses it in its charitable work, or if your donation is worth less than $500. Then you can report its fair market value based on listings from Kelley Blue Book and similar sources.
9. Keep a thorough paper trail. If your donation is worth more than $500, you’ll have to attach IRS Form 8283 to your tax return. If it’s worth more than $5,000, your documentation must include an outside appraisal. You’ll also need proof of the donation, such as a receipt from the charity and a copy of the title change.
10. Be detail-oriented. This paper trail may seem cumbersome, but think about it: This may be one of the biggest charitable donations you ever make. By taking the time to dot the i’s, you can make sure that the charity gets the most benefit and you get the biggest possible deduction.
